Default Hercus 9" Model A Feed Nuts

Has anyone used these feed nuts on a 9" Model A Hercus.
South Bend Lathe 9" 10k Backlash Compensating Feed Nuts (eBay item 160495516667 end time 18-Nov-10 13:30:09 AEDST) : Business Industrial

I've got about 0.02" backlash on both my cross slide and compound screws and thought these might be the way to improve things. I've got the taper turning attachment cross slide which supposedly uses a different nut to the normal cross slide so I'm not entirely sure these will work on my cross slide.

Another worry I have is that supposedly the cross slide nut was replaced with a new one from Hercus by the previous owner but I still have 0.02" backlash so I'm thinking that the threads on the cross slide screw may not be the best. I have the old nut and looking at the internal thread the acme thread had totally worn out and the thread looks like a normal thread with sharp V's.

Have you removed the Screws in question and visably inspected them.
If you use the Taper Attachment on a regular basis you may be better off sourceing a Cross Slide nut to suit, that way you wont have to remove the Cross Slide screw when using.

No, I haven't pulled it apart to see what things are like in there yet. Just saw these nuts last night and after a recent thread on here about saddle re-assembly and the crud you can find down in there I was getting motivated to pull mine apart and give it a cleanup. I'll pull them apart and have a look at what things are like
