Hi all

I recently purchased a Sheraton Model A lathe. It has been used at the local tech. school for many years. The usual wear from students abuse , but not too bad .

The bed shows about .005" wear from tailstock end to the headstock end . The top slide on top of the saddle is rather sloppy . I guess this is repairable ?

It came with 3 well used chucks , two nice UK made micrometers and a beautiful Mitimuyo 0 to 040" dial indicator , and many hss tools . I paid $550 fot the lot .

The thread cutting gearbox has some backlash in it ...is that normal ?

The half nuts appear to be reasonable .

Main problem is the rack under the bed , for the power drive pinion, is loose , somebody has removed the line of screws holding the rack, and replaced two of them with horrid hardware screws , the other holes are empty the rack moves back and forward about 1/4" ..not good.

Will post some pics soon . And will look for the serial number at the tailstock end . it doesnt have alluminium covers ..so might be alater production..late 50's maybe ?
