Default 3.5T Flat deck trailer build

Rego went smoothly, and Vicroads inspector complimented me on the build quality which was nice.
Tows well empty, and having electric brakes does away with the normal banging of an override brake coupling when empty.

Although it doesn’t technically require front position lamps (only reflectors) I’m going to fit some as I’ve found they are a great indicator that the trailer hasn’t gone “dark” on you while driving.
Will also add a reversing light as that wasn’t mandatory for rego.

Have ordered some 2m x 2T (per ramp) aluminum ramps online.
Procrastinated for ages over whether to get 1.6m or 2m ones.
The shorter ones would have been long enough for the trailer with the beaver tail and been a bit cheaper, but the 2m ones means i can use them to get stuff on/off the ute deck too.

Looks much more balanced from the rear too!

    Hi Steve,

Congratulations on passing Rego. It is a good looking trailer. Is a rear number plate not required on the trailer as it is here ?
    Best Regards:

I think it's in the centre of the rear channel but almost impossible to see. When enlarged, I do see a rectangular shape there but no detail.

    Tricked you.
That photo was before rego, so I hadn’t been issued a plate yet.

There is one on there now

    Thanks Kryn.

Major project is my landrover 120" ute rebuild/modify - but thats going to take a while.
Nothing else major - just a heap of smaller projects.

First load test - 2.2T of DSG on a 50km freeway trip to my place.
    Towed well with no issues.

No - the DSG isn’t mine. That would be greedy

Default 3.5T Flat deck trailer build

Found some 8mm clevis lugs for under $4 each delivered at tiedownsdirect.com.au

A short length of 8mm chain and voila - some tie down links to drop into the keyhole plates and attach straps to (or a lever block to reposition a load if required)

Looks like you’ve used G80 chain which is used for slings and lifting applications.

G70 is normally used for tie downs.

All good then, very unusual to see G70 in black oxide, don’t think I’ve ever seen any in black oxide ever in the 30 yrs of using transport chain.

Have to say I was a bit surprised myself when I opened the bucket.
I was expecting plated - but to be fair the piccy on the front shows black oxide.
