A few more pics , overhead fluxcore welds on the strut bracket arent the best , lol . The two front angled cheq plate trim pieces i shaped with a hammer and piece of wood , took ages , once the rivets go in they will tighten up and fit better .

Rear door , i ordered 250n struts and had to swap them for 650n to keep the door up when open !

One more day to finish , brakes , spare wheel carrier mounts , wiring and plug , rivet all the trim pieces on and paint underneath.

A few more pics . Safety chain on although the weld is buggered up a bit at the top as i turned too slow to go down hill ...fail ! Tyre carrier is a just a bolt cut in half with wings welded to the nut. I originally bolted the jockey wheel on but decided to make it more permanent now. Half a day to finish it off.

Finished ! $30 weighbridge ticket shows 600kg on the dot i thought it would be lighter. First impressions towing it , very easy to tow. Put sealant tape on roof all around the edges and joins + sika under corner angles. Rego booked in for mid Feb.

That has come up very smart indeed. Good build.

I am not surprised by the weight. I built a small enclosed box trailer (about 5 x 4) using corrugated aluminium panels on a steel frame. I had intended it to be lighter than my 7 x 5 trailer. I had forgotten that 3mm aluminium is a similar weight to 1mm steel. It came in exactly the same at 280Kg! One of my pieces of trivia is to ask which is heavier aluminium or glass. Almost everybody says glass, but mostly aluminium is heavier, although not by much. Our mental image is of window glass and soft drink cans. Aluminium has a density of 2.7 compared to glass, typically, at 2.6.

Got an earlier inspection done this morning , the inspection went well apart from needing mudflaps , i didnt think it needed mudflaps because the wheels are underneath but apparently it does. The mud flaps have to cover min 50% of the tyre.

Unfortunately i missed the cut off for homemade , they stopped doing them last year so it will be now registered under the new rules. It will not be registered as a ''Homemade'' the compliance plate will list me with my name as the manufacturer. The information will be public listed on the Govt website and REVS checks when you do a VIN search , so my name and address will be tied to the trailer for ever and a day. No mention of a drawbar strength test but the RMS required a good clear photo of the drawbar and connections plus a clear photo of each side, front and rear of the trailer. The chain and reflectors were checked for stamping to ensure it meets ADR requirements.

Was advised it could take up to 3 months for the VIN to be issued from RMS. Once the VIN gets issued the trailer goes back to the inspection station for them to stamp the drawbar with the new VIN and they install the compliance plate. They charge $60 for that + the blue slip $48.
