I bought the ccmt 21 51 carbide tips the add didnt mention degrees, i plan on moving the shaft up and down with the motor assembly i havent worked that out yet but it will likely just be a threaded bar so long as the motor of choice isnt yo heavy

Yeh...you gotta get a holder for the inserts.
Make sure it's the right size to suit your toolpost if it's not adjustable. Tools only work properly if the height is correct

Ran into a bit of a problem guys i picked up a mapp gas cylinder from bunnings and some silver solder paste as i already had a roll of 4mm thick silver solder and a propane torch, i removed a old tungsten tooth from a worn circular saw blade and brazed it onto one of my HSS 6mm tools first 2 brazes were poor as i have never brazed before
3rd go worked a charm i put the tool in the.post and proceeded to cut the steel billet and the tooth had became so hot the solder had melted and released the carbide tooth
Now im going down the route of brazing i think its not a good option i dont have anyway of cooling the tool i suppose i could hang a bottle of water on a slow drip feed but my lathe is small and i have 240v near the chuck i dont think its ideal
I may have to make a screw on carbide fixture as there are next to no shops in Aus that deal with 6mm carbide tooling for some reason

If you have a compressor you can feed low pressure air over the tool to cool it.
Buy a 12mm tool and cut the bottom 6mm off.
I have some 20mm Seco insert tools that I got from an estate that have had the bottom milled out, rather conveniently they are the correct size for my Hercus tool post.

Are you using soft solder ( lead/tin), or proper silver solder?

If it’s on a roll chances are it’s probably soft solder. Silver solder is usually in rods that have a label telling you the silver content. 2% and 5% are commonly used in plumbing/refrigeration pipe works. The higher the silver content, the more expensive the cost of the rod will be.

SBA245 for brazing tips is what I would use. Expensive, but you can braze a lot of tips with one length of rod.
