No point in giving advice when the person asking takes no notice and goes their own way and then complains because they had no success

Gazza as there are people on this forum that have more patience than I have, don`t leave. You might learn something.

I however after 4 or 5 threads that have basically gone done the same route now have had enough and shall leave you alone.

The advice here is very helpful and I understand that it's often quite frustrating when advice is given and not either taken or acted upon.

However for some people it isn't always possible to act on the advised info, due to circumstances, cost, availability or for some other reason, including different advice from someone else (not all advice people get is from here)

This doesn't mean the advice wasn't appreciated or was ignored.

I thought we were better than this.
Elan has hit the nail right on the thread. Don't get peed off if you think your advice has been ignored. Just don't respond any more in that thread.

We lose more members because of such comments and behavior. On both WWF and here we have lost many hundred members over the years because of this problem and many were very knowledgeable and had been excellent members up until then.

    Point in case below:

    Sticks 'n' stones gazza.
I will not delete your account from here or WWF and neither will any other moderator. If you want to do that send me a pm and talk about it rather than a public dummy spit. You also need to understand that people have gone out off their way to help you and the frustration that some may feel.

In my opinion. For all members:
For a forum to run smoothly there needs to be give and take from all members. The forums are basically a big family and all families have disagreements from time to time. If for some reason the family members don't agree with one another or are frustrated, etc. Don't get angry, nasty, sarcastic..... walk away and come back when you have calmed down.

If you feel you have been flamed, or are being set upon or abused, either try and sort it out privately, put the antagonist on your ignore list or report it to admin (me) don't do a public dummy spit or take your bucket and spade and leave the sand pit. That won't help you and will give the antagonist a sense of satisfaction.

Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. Albert Einstein.

If you don't have ideas and attempt to bring those ideas to fruition you will stagnate and die. All of us had to start somewhere, at some point none of us knew about the things we now attempt to offer advice and guidance on. Suggesting that you should know your limitations and not extend past those is simply going to stifle learning and skill development (unless that's in reference to anything to do with flushing or finishing of plasterboard, then its completely legit!)

    So philosophy aside..

Now you know its 1020 Bright, grind up a HSS tool, slow the machine down and get after it..
And yeah, your machine is a bit on the small side, so it'll take a while

    On a philosophical note again-
There are stages of learning. People exist in one of these 4 zones:
    4-stages-of-learning-1170x825.jpg

The masters at their craft know what to do, and how to do it.
The newbies are blissfully ignorant of what can be done, and nor do they have the skill to perform that task.

We all live on here somewhere. And people move from one stage to the next (you don't just become a master craftsman in an instant).
So when people ask "look what happened- help" its usually unconcious incompetent- they don't have the skills to know how, or how to resolve.
When a "how do I fix this problem" question arises, they know the problem and need help to become proficient (advice for a defined problem).
The upper two areas are the dick-swinging zone- "Look what I did, how could it be better?" and "check this out- try and better this, fellas". There is not much learning/advice to offer to people in these areas.

I like to gauge how I sit in these categories, where I can. Likewise, how I help others is relative to where I percieve them to be on this spectrum.
We can't just bust out the contents of the machinery's handbook to a newbie and expect them to get it.

    anyway... back to normal transmission.

Google multimachine if you are interested in homemade lathes/mills. It's basically a machine made out of used engine blocks, these are ideal as they provide accurate surfaces to work from. Was originally intended to be used in third world countries.

I don't know why would would bother to do this in Australia though when there are plenty of used machines available cheaply or sometimes freely.

Hmm. Yank designs machine that can be made in developing countries with minimal tools. Does everything in imperial units, which no developing country (and very few developed countries) use.

That aside, it's an interesting project.
