What equipment do you have available? Asking, as it looks like you'll have to make a roller if these places can't do it.

Im going to try the original idea using the 100x50x4mm open channel beam, the beam will be open to the outside of the frame so i can weld some 50x50x3mm cross members

I firstly need to some how attach my multimeter to my welders terminals and video record my settings and write the down need to kick this trailer off by setting up the welder correctly from the beginning

I have thought about making the roller that is a great idea and i have a plan in my head but it requires a lathe to machine the rollers, do any of u know of any cheap lathe deals around $400? I have looked at the Chinese mini lathes on ebay and made in china they start around $600

I'd stay away from any of the mini stuff, plastic gears etc. DAMHIKT.
You might be able to get a member to turn up the necessary bits for the roller, while saving/looking for a bigger/better lathe.

I was looking at the 7x14 Chinese lathes unsure if they are ran by plastic, metal gears or belts 550watt motors, i tried looking for steel round bar in 100mm+ size couldn't find it for some reason for the rollers, do u think machine grade aluminum rollers would be ok?

i thought about sending an email to one of the machinist on Gumtree asking about making the rollers but as it is the 3x alloy rollers in 130mm are $150 plus the cost of paying someone to machine them would likely put the price up there i could add a little more to buy a machine and make multiple sets of all different sizes and forms

besides i have wanted a nice little hobby lathe for a while now just cannot manage to save enough tho, i tried searching Gumtree for a larger vintage model lathe but none available

What are the rollers for? If they are for the keel to run on, I'd use the polyurethane type, they don't rust, corrode or give problems.
If the rollers are for something else, I might be able to get hold of some and bring it over next week for you. Let me know if you need it and I'll get a price for you?

I don't think the ally would hold up too long.
I'll get a price for you tomorrow. Will be leaving next Thursday, so I can bring it with me if the price is OK.

I think you are seriously underestimating the force required to roll 100X50X4 steel channel (which I reckon is under specced for a trailer anyway). Have a look at the section rollers at machinery house https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Se...h&s=section%20
These are substantial bits of gear, but even then, you need one of the larger models in order to roll channel like you are talking about.
If you are welding 50X50X3 in as cross members, why not bite the bullet and use RHS for the whole construction?

Karl i dont have a lot of cash trying to make the most of what i have and what i can save in the future, the shs cross members were one option what i am trying to do well hopefully is buy pre galvanized steel so i only need to coat the welds with lanolin, i was quoted for the trailer to be galvanized $5 per killo thats a whopper when your talking 150-200kg frame plus i will need to haul the frame 5 hours north and hire a car trailer for total 10 hours on 2 occassions it all adds up financially, i do have a trailer now that my boats on but i would need to cut out sections as it has splits and rust

Wouldn't the price for galvanizing be per kg of galv they put on not what the trailer actually weighs? Pretty sure that's how we get charged at work.

I've always wondered about gal costs, I have some old H beam I'd like to use for low retaining walls.
According to Industrial Galvanizers - SPECIFIERS MANUAL
It is charged by the weight of the item. The rate may vary with the type of item, thin /complex items are dearer than larger thick items.
But that link suggests $5/kg may be a bit on the high side.

Ok here's a curve ball i tried googling this last night, how much is 1kg of zinc in litres or how many square meters would 1kg cover? i just don't want to built a trailer haul it to the galvanizer have the job dipped than they charge triple or more than what i expected
