Thread: Alloy Coupling

I received my order of various trailer parts yesturday, and amongst them was 2000kg coupling. When I lifted the coupling, it near went over my shoulder as it was unexpectingly light. It appears as if it is made from aluminium . It's an ARK brand, has 2000kg on one side of it, and AS xxxx (the AS number) on the other, has a lockable latch, and a slack adjuster fitted.
Although I'm familiar with cast iron and cast steel couplings, this is the first I've seen cast aluminium. I'm wondering if any other forum users have used one of these? And got any comment about having 'the runs on the board' for the alloy product?

If ARK are doing an alloy coupling, they don't list it on their website.

The silver couplings they do are Galvanized, cast iron.

Find a magnet and see if it sticks. Soon tell you if its alloy or not.

On further investigation, it is galvanised cast iron, but it does still feel much lighter than the Trigg coupling it's replacing.
