Preventing rust on welded zincalume or galvanized steel?
Painting the welds doesn't seem to last in the weather nearly as good as the zincalume on the metal surrounding the weld .Is there anything, like say zinc or tin or silver solder or something, that can be melted onto the weld which is as hard wearing and rust resistant as the gal or zincalume ?I did hear something about sticks of some sort of galvanizing that can be melted and wiped onto the hot steel.Anyone familiar with a product like that ?
thanks all ----mat

I simply use cold gal in a pressure pack after hitting the weld with a wire buff. Seems to last reasonably well out in the weather.
Of course its not as good as hot dip gal etc... but its quick and easy for me.
Cant say I have tried the other things that u mentionedFrisky wife, happy life. Then I woke up. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

Cold gal works well, I find the stuff in the can is better than the spray on version. Killrust looks the bees knees when done right and works great outside but if something has to be painted you cant go past POR15.

Have alook at "GALMET" brand "DURGAL".... the stuff is magic.
most of the other "cold gal or zinc spray products just done come near it.
It is a thinners Bassed spray on product.
the thing about it is that it has far more resin in it than most of the other gal or zinc products and it sprays up and look real good...If you spray it nice it looks as good as wheel silver.
It is a full blown paint not just a zinc coating.
I did a job on the broinlsw's boat trailer over 5 years ago... and it is still standing up well.
It was originaly intended for patching welds in zincalume and gal steel.
A little goes a long way.

Most powertools have sharp teeth.
People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.

I use a stick called Galmend that is available from BOC.
While the weld is still hot, give it a quick brush, then rub the end of the stick on the weld. If it hasn't cooled off too much, the stick should melt and flow over the weld. Spread it around with the wire brush and Bob's your auntie's live -in -lover.
If it has cooled off warm it up with the oxy torch and continue as before.
