Default Just brazed up fuel tank-safely

Finally got around to brazing up the rust holes in the old landcruiser petrol tank. After all the controversy and warnings I did it really safely.

I completely submerged the tank in a big tub of water with only the bit I was braising just sticking out of the water .Worked well and didn.t even explode .How could it ? No air or oxygen --full of water submerged and surrounded by water

I don't see any problem if done right. I saw CIG techs do a demo on this, empty the tank, flush with water and purge with an inert gas. I stood well back but it didn't blow up so they must have known what they were doing.

We did a simillar thing years ago at Birdsville with a split tank.

We filled it with loverly Birdsville grey water and hit it with the TIG (alloy tank) and it promptly went poof and split another seem.

Turns out it had a blocked fuel return line (the tank builder got carried away with Loctite) and the the tank held enough fumes to ignite.

You can never be too carefull.

The same tank split 3 days later so we used a ratchet tie down and epoxy and that lasted for another 4 days until we finished the Rally.
