Default wiring/technical diagrams on old CIG welders.

    Hi,

Was just wondering if there are any wiring/technical diagrams on old CIG welders laying around?

Reason being I just bought an transmig 195 with traveler single phase, it's a grey machine and I believe it's about 1985 vintage?

    Any info would be good.

    Thanks

    Default Transmig diagram

You are looking for a wiring diagram for a remote wire feeder
    Transmig 195?
Wirefeeders were blue as far as I remember.

Some of the power sources were grey.

We have one at school,I will check for a wiring diagram if there is one still around in the archives.

If it is electrical I would hazard a guess and say its something simple.I have only seen two electrical mig failures in 40 years and they more mechanical than electrical.

Vibration on one broke the poor solder bond on a fuse assembly. Look for the simple stuff first.Other was a loose connection.

wire feeders and the power source were definatly grey from that vintage. We've got some bigger machines 350A/400A non pulse and pulse machines at school and at work and both items are grey.

This mig works, i'm just looking for the diagrams for future reference and trouble shooting.

by the way what does the dwell time function do?

    Dwell time function?
Device used to annoy the crap out of other welders.

Its a variable time delay that turns power to the gun on and off.Used where you have lots of stitch welding to do.

Nasty apprentices (and tradesmen) will turn in on, so its just on, and wait for an unsuspecting operator to suffer apparent lack of power problems. The same practical joker would put a slip of paper between clear and dark lenses.

Pull trigger it works and then stops, won't work .Again, pull trigger it works and then stops, won't work etc.etc.etc.
Its a knick knack toy that never really caught on. Best left unused. Make sure it is "clicked off" and left there.

I would get it opened and dust it out.In my humble opinion these machines are much better in many ways than some machines made now. They certainly are better constructed.

yeah i'm going to clean it up a bit, maybe give the covers a new coat of paint. They look like a very solid machine, even the duty cycle is a little bit higher then some of the machines sold today, even WIA.

I'm thinking about changing the gun on it, do you know much about the euro conversion kits? What are they worth?

I wasn't even aware there was a conversion kit for Euro fittings.

They was a thread about a cheap binzel guns a while back.I would assume that would include a listing for the Euro type fitting.I think the price was a round $100 which is bloody cheap. It may have been through Bob the welder.
Do you see an advantage in the Euro fitting? Is it for quick change reasons or just that the new stuff available in the last several years has been pretty much all Euro?.

    If you go here

    http://www.globalweld.com.au/products/iwws-profax.pdf

There is mention of a euro kit to fit the guns but I did not see the machine mount for it. It does not means its not there ,just that I did not see it. I swear the printing sizes are all getting smaller.

Yeah, some mongrel has been in my workshop and changed all my tape measures etc for ones that have smaller printing too.

Main reason for wanting to convert to the euro fitting is because it makes getting a gun much easier. There are plenty of the binzels etc on ebay for around $100-$150 for a 400 amp gun.

All the machines at our tafe have been converted as well, some of them are from the early 80's. I guess it keeps the costs down by just having the one type of gun.

At Tafe the need for one type of mig gun fitting was paramount .We had a stack of machines that we needed to keep going.

It was an easy thing to grap a spare gun kept as a rotating spare and just plug it in.This was of course with bayonet fittings. The Euro fitting would be just ideal in this type of situation.

If the Tafe s have changed machines over then the surface mount connection is obviously available. It probably was there in the PDF but MR McGoo me missed it.

Yeah that is true, the euro fitting would offer less down time too. Especially as you could have a dedicated gun for steel and one for aluminium.

If you can find any technical info/wiring relating to the transmig 195 or similar i'd be interested.

    Thanks
