Default Welding Malleable Iron to steel

I'm modifying a BSA centrestand, made from Malleable Iron, to HT Steel which is a lever which you stand on to help get the bike up on the stand. and I'm advised that arc will will do the job (I have a small inverter arc welder). OR: Brazing maybe? -I have only MAPP gas which is good for smaller stuff but I'd be dubious about getting enough heat into the mass of iron. Any advice? If I arc weld it would 2mm electrode be sufficient? ;img src="https://metalworkforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=398998&amp;amp;stc=1" attachmentid="398998" alt="" id="vbattach_398998" class="previewthumb"&gt;<br><br>

I'd use a 3.15mm electrode and 100-120A but do short welds all around. Steel to malleable iron welds OK. Grind the surfaces for the welds bright, so you get not surprises.

I'll try that. Thanks Joe (BTW if anyone you know is after CX bits, I have some free to a good home, just new head gaskets, o-rings, m/c).

I have no need myself, but there are always people asking for odd bits on the CX forum: https://australiancx.asn.au/forum/in...p?action=forum

    Default Success

Joe's recommendations, 3.2mm rod and 120A worked a treat. Successful weld.
(Very much easier arc welding this than thinwall steel tubing!)
