    Default CIG Transmig

Hi all new to this forum.
I have acquired a CIG Transmig from mid 1980’s.
I do very little welding and this is a big unit and it is not worth the cost of the argon bottle just to have it sitting there taking up space.
After some advice. Will is work with gasless wire?
should I move it on and get a smaller more modern unit?
Is this old unit worth any money or should I look to give it away ?
    cheers

We need more info to be able to tell you if it can work with gasless wire, what is the model of it?

If you can get a photo of it maybe put one up as well.

Some of the older transmigs are very good.

Are you aware that while the old cylinder rental schemes are still around, people like Bunnings will sell you just the gas with the cylinder secured by a refundable deposit? A D size is from memory $200 deposit. Some have argued against the scheme in the past, saying that the amount of interest on the $200 they lose by having the money tied up is excessive but I find it a far better proposition than quarterly rental, especially for irregular use.

    Welcome to the forums.

There were a whole bunch of Transmig models. A pic of your machine will be handy.

The model I am thinking you might have is the squarish box shaped body steel in sheet metal. The was the plain straight polarity (electrode negative ) -therefore gas shielded solid wire.
The other Transmig that comes to mind for gasless wire, the Transmig195 Rural pak had reversible polarity to allow such use.

Both were rugged well made machines which I suspect were re badged Miller Machines who had a tie up with CIG around that time.

Long story short, unless you have 195 Transmig Rural pak there no gasless wire capability.
