Argon Gas Refill
All
Pretty basic/beginers question - but can you get Argon (MIG/TIG) Gas Bottles refilled?
I inherited a bit of welding gear (Pulse Tig) along with a Argon Bottle thats just about empty - I'm assuming that the old man bought years ago it as we arnt paying any hire/rent on it.
Does anyone know If i can get it refilled, or do I have to sign up to a rent agreement and swap out bottles as required
Last question - whats the age limit/safe working life of these standards mig/tig argon G size bottles?

Please!!! they are cylinders. Beverages come in bottles .Gas comes on cylinders (mostly!!!)
The trend over the last several years has been to buy the cylinder outright which comes filled and then return it for exchange of a refilled cylinder. Its pretty much like the LPG swap & go system.
Total tools and Bunnings are two retailers ,but not all Bunnings / Total Tools branches carry gas cylinders.Theres a mob of them in Townsville. Boc ,Global Welding and South Pacific Welding supplies would all takes returns of their own cylinders
The refillers will only refill their own brand cylinders or at least was the case when I returned my rental cylinders 5/6 years back.
The retail/rent situations also vary from city to city.
If the cylinder you are in possession of, has a logo/brand follow it up if there is a company branch in Townsville. The cylinder will have an inspection date on it. I used to know the inspection interval but have long forgotten it.
Other contributors who currently own or rent cylinders will be in a better position than I to to advise on $/cylinder sizes.
Get the Yellow pages out and ring around.

It's not unknown for rental cylinders to fall out of the system so it may still be "owned" by someone else.
There is a gas supplier in Rockhampton who advertise that they will exchange any cylinders although it would need to be in test. There may be a similar setup local to you.
