Default WIA AC DC 200i problem

Hi, I have recently purchased a WIA AC DC 200i.
The peak amps won't adjust on the machine even thou the adjustment on the hand piece
is at max, I found that if I unplug torch lead from the machine the knob will adjust the peak amps.
Any ideas my fault or machine fault would be appreciated. Thanks Ray.

    Default AC/DC tig

    Hello from BC.
In the manual there is a procedure to change from local to remote current control and back. It varies with which version you have so read the book.

If you don't have it, here is the manual,

    https://www.welding.com.au/assets/do...CDC_Manual.pdf

    pages 14 & 15

    Sections
    15,15.1 and 15.2

If that does not fix ,its a trip to the repairers then?

Some machines I've worked with will only operate on a 'remote' control (foot pedal or torch rotary control) as a percentage of the current set at machine.
So if you machine is at 50% of the machine's max output, then the remote will only give up to that value (ie 50% of 200A = 100A, remote gives 0A-100A roughly). I say roughly because if it's a potentiometer based adjustment pots can have resistance variance, so may be more or less.

Or as others have said, RTFM.

will be contacting the supplier, also suspect a gas leak inside the machine. Thanks anyway

Thanks anyway, had already read the manual, also I have spoken to my welding supplies and he has informed me
that they had previously stocked these machines and sent them back as a couple of them had the same issue.
He advised me that whilst he still stocks some WIA he will not be going with this model again. Thanks for your reply.

    Default current control fault

    Hello Raazorj.
We just had one of these tigs in for warranty with the same fault. The sparky was unable to fault the powersource so we proceeded to change the flex head as it had been overheated. Current control fault no longer present.
I suspect changing the head disturbed the current pot in the handle. This pot connects with an inline circuit board type of plug. For some time we have had intermittent trouble with these torches. A rough fix is to remove the pot and place a small piece of business card under it. The pot will be pressed into the receptical a bit harder.
A butchers fix but they are cheap torches.
    Regards

Thanks for advice, I have sent a warranty claim email to Bilba Industries where I purchased online back in June'20
In hindsight I wish I had of tried the sws tig out instead but none where available when I needed one to complete some jobs I had on the go at the time.
