Buying first mig welder
I would like to buy a MIG welder - but I have no idea what is suitable. I have 15amp and 3 phase power and would like to weld 2.5mm mild steel mostly and maybe sometimes 10mm flat bar.
I have never used a MIG welder, have used a stick welder once and thats about it. budget $1000 - just for welder - gas and safety will buy extra? happy to go higher if necessary or lower if $1000 is too high.

With that budget, you should be able to pick up a good used MIG from the Auction houses such as Grays Online, also checkout Machines4U, without going to specific machines most 3 phase welders will weld up that size steel easily. Just don't be in a rush to buy one as frequently there is quite a variation in price/demand for even the same exact brand/model of welder. Grays online is an auction site so prices will vary with demand and the latter has the price fixed. Both worth continuously looking at, will give you an idea of what models/brands go for. Also do searches in Gumtree.
What would you like to weld with it, any thing specific you want to make or build or repair.
Cheers
Ed.
