Default Help choosing the right welding course!

    Hi guys,
I hope I am in the right place!
I want to become an industrial welder; these days, those guys make a pretty good sum every month! I am just an amateur, haven't done any courses or sort in welding, and most of what I have learned is from the spare parts workshop I worked part-time. I want to specialize in MIG welding. Most of the jobs I looked for are asking for certifications in MIG and TIG welding.
So I looked up for various welding certifications and went through AWS, CWB websites. It seems I probably have to obtain certification in welding from a third party. After extensive research online, I found this welding school, which offers various certification courses in MIG welding. But I wonder which would help me the best to become an industrial welder. Could you guys help me pick a course that would help me in my future venture? Is there any industrial welder here? Will an AWS, or CWB certification along with my welding skills land me a good job? Any help appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi Kesper,
WELCOME to a TOP FORUM. Unfortunately I can't answer your question as to which course would suit you best, I suggest that you contact the training organisation as that is what they are there for to help you decide on which course is suitable.
I don't think there is "good" money in MIG welding as such as a lot of places want cheap labour and basically any mug can be taught in a day or so. TIG welding on the other hand can be good money, particularly when you're able to TIG copper, titanium and other fancy metals.
I've been welding for over 50 years, started to learn when I was 12, unfortunately I never did a certificate course, and learnt as I went along.
    Hope this helps a bit.
    Kryn

I'm wondering if this person is just promoting their welding school (or is being paid to do so)

    Hi Kesper,

    Welcome to the MetalWork forum.

Our forum is open to anyone from any country, but many of the answers you might receive might be from the perspective of Australians who form the majority of the subscribers. Many of us ,as Australians, might have only scant knowledge of Canadian welder training bodies and training pathways.

Our advice could well be of small value as what applies here in Australia may not necessarily apply in Canada.

I feel advice on your training pathway is something much better served by seeking out Canadian people working in the fabrication welding industry and taking appropriate advice from them. Much better than any general advice we could offer.

If you do a training course you will obviously start at the bottom in terms of what you can earn and possibly need to endure at least a couple of years of lower wages before developing your best earning potential .

I know there is an online AWS (Q & A) website and another couple of sites -one is Welding Web other is https://welding.com/ that serves North America /Canada.

I welcome you as a member, but honestly, think you shall get the answers seek from those websites.

If he is, its a bloody long way for us to go, to attend classes. The member is posting is posting from Canada and was most likely unaware he was asking a question to Aussies.

AWS is the American Welding Society and CWB is linked to International Institute of Welding.

Both well known organizations for many years.Nothing shonky there!
