    Default Welder repairs in Melbourne?

Hi all, I have a Transtig 150 that I've only ever used for stick welding. My boys have decided that they want to try fabricating so I went and got some argon. Turns out it won't tig.
We get the solenoid click and gas flow initally, but no spark.
Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Could it be the tig torch?
Otherwise does anyone know where I could get this diagnosed and repaired? In Preston (and not currently locked down!)
    Cheers, Martin

Since you can hear the solenoid clicking I don't think it will be the Tig Torch unless the main cable is broken somewhere. I know from pictures that the earlier Transtig 150 had a selector switch for Stick Welding/Tig Welding in the top right corner of the front face of the machine. The switch should be in the 'UP' position for Tig Welding and I would even flick the switch up and down several times as the welder has been used in Stick Welding mode for so long the switch contacts could be dirty (it could even be that the switch is faulty). I Googled Welder Repairs in Melbourne and came up with these two Weldtronic – Supply, repair and maintain all brands of welding equipment and Migtronic Services - Migtronics, welder, repairs, melbourne, victoria, esab, esab repairs, cigweld, kemppi, wia, lincoln, hypertherm, boc, weldmaster, uni-mig, binzel . I lived in Dundas Street Thornbury in about 1991-93 and there was a Welding Shop nearby which I think is Cigweld/Esab at 71 Gower Street - Preston, maybe they can help.

Know the transtig well and have repaired many over the years (thats what i do for a living).
The ONLY issue with the transtigs was that (in AC Tig) the were hellishly hungry on power compared to the output you got, and suffered on the "HF" side with putting all sorts of crap back down the mains lines... getting into radios and tv's etc. The older ones suffered from board faults... no so much in the newer latter made units.
Your m/c would be easily 20 years old (even if the last build) and can tell you as a matter of fact that cigweld will NOT have parts for them, you will be lucky to find anyone there who would know what is was... I'm a cigweld service agent... as well as others.

Kev @ weltronic is your bet to go for bits and repair in Melbourne (I'm in Geelong)... He is were I get parts for the "older m/c" repairs... he brings in aftermarket repair parts and boards together with his own brand of m/c's.

As an "entry level basic machine" and up to 3mm, if you can get it to work... it will do the job for you.

    Steve...
