    Default Helmet spares

I don't think the Speedglas will be getting repaired as the headbands are around $90.00, if they were $50.00 max then yeah. Though I have some manual helmets around so maybe one of their headbands will fit.
I do like the Speedglas helmets though, but your paying a fair bit of money for wide viewing screen which is what I want and it looks like parts are expensive. I've just now emailed this website https://weldinghelmetsonline.com.au too see if the Speedglas headband they list might fit.
It seems there is no auto helmet with those omni view len's. I tried a gold lens years ago on a manual helmet, but didn't like it not sure if they are the same as an Omni one. Graham in regards to the rubber membrane I used a small screwdriver and gently got under the edge of the rubber and then pulled it off. You do need to be careful though and only just get under the edge of it otherwise you risk damaging the PCB.
    Hello Steran 50.
Correct part number for a Speedglas 100/9000 harness is 705015. List price is $45.00 plus GST. It should be easy to get.

The 705015 is actually the one I was looking at and yes it will fit. The part numbers have obviously changed over the years even before 705015 it was 165010 but in saying that 705015 is more so a replacement and an improved model over 165010. I have ordered just now ordered part no. 705015 off Gentronics (better postage cost) so I just have to wait till it arrives.

Just bought a Promax 500 today. My Miller helmet the LCD screen has gone blurry and is not clear any more. This will be my third auto darkening helmet. Interestingly the price over time seems to be going up, not down. My first one from the 1990's was a bit over $100, my second the Miller one was around the same price, now I paid $210 for this Promax one. I hope to use it for stuff like plasma cutting as well.

I agree RC the price does seem to be going up and not down, but not a lot though. I just looked at two websites for Miller Elite's and they were $489 and $490, my Miller Elite was worth $450 in 2003 so not a huge increase in comparison to the 2003 price. I hope your new purchase works well RC, the Promax 500 is one I'm considering. I tried my Miller again today and it's turning on again, I'm starting to think more that it's the batteries so I ordered two Panasonics to try.

The panasonic batteries that I ordered arrived and when I measured them against the current batteries that I've been using there was no real noticable difference. My Miller helmet had actually been working again so maybe it's got a gremlin in it. The new headband for the Speedglas helmet and it fitted well, so at the moment I have two working welding helmets. I'm going to hang off for a while in buying a new helmet, but I'm keen on the
    Unimig Razor RWX8000 helmet.

I have tried my Weld Class helmet. It works just as it should. The flip up flip down tension knobs have to be tight to get it to stay up. The arc is showing up blue as well, not green. It is good to be able to see the arc again. My old helmet was just a blurry mess. Did not realise how bad it was.

    Hi steran50

I read your above post and thought to myself , "Ah,maybe I will just go and try the Miller helmet right now".

Bingo! it works. First time no multiple presses of the membrane button. When it is in 'I am not gunna work mode' I can press and re press the button until I go blue in the face and nothing.

I betcha it won't work next time I really need it. It points to a possible common fault with those Units

I have also got one one of those blue WIA cheapies that is dead as a proverbial doornail.

Did the replacement battery thing, so I shall split it and have a look at its gizzards for anything obvious.

    Gremlins for sure!

It does seem like there might be an issue with those helmets. I know mine has actually played up for years, but I've always been able to get it to work in the past. At times I have had to press the switch hard and other times lightly to get the helmet to come on so to me it seems as the switch itself might be the issue. I might have a crack at splitting mine as well so I can see if I can replace the switch. Just having a google and a look on YouTube and I found out that the later Miller helmets than mine have a reset button. I can't really complain about my helmet as it's 17 years old and has had a lot of use over the years. I just spotted these Auto darkening lenses on eBay Darkening Filter Welding cover Solar Auto Helmet Lens 4 Arc Sensor Replacement | eBay (shortened link as was too long) I know they are only Chinese and I have no idea if the dimensions match, but if the helmets do stuff up completely they might be okay to recover the helmet so it could be used as a spare.

    Hi steran50,
I was playing with my led cree torch and shone it into the cells on the front of the sheild.
Pressed the on button and screen lit up.

I am thinking as well as the replaceable batteries there might be a fixed one inside the module that is past its use by date.
    Food for thought.
I have looked all over the net using various search terms as there doesn't seem to be a pattern of occurrence with our particular problem.

If there are any more developments I will pass them on.
