    Noob question
Could someone please take a quick look at this video, around the 4min.30sec mark and tell me what that copper rope (if that is what it is) is about?

Bit big for an alligator clamp.

I thought that, but notice how he puts it literally right where he strikes the arc, like he is trying to get copper into the weld.

The drum obviously has some kid of non-conductive coating so he's pulling the copper wire into the exposed steel section of the drum to make an earth contact.

No he just trying to get a good earth so it doesn't ruin his bearings whilst he is welding.

Phil, The bloke on that vid spends a lot of time doming a tracking wheel but, especially on just a 50 mm belt a sander/linisher, the tracking wheel does not need anywhere near that amount of doming. In fact 3/4 turns of electrical tape in the middle of a flat cylinder is all that is needed for a 50mm wide tracking wheel.

I am going to make a wood drive wheel (230mm x 50mm) Bob, and buying an alloy tracking wheel. (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alum-Sil...frcectupt=true )
