Hi Joe,
The Metalmaster 215.
I can't find a 200T
200P maybe? but you say pilot arc and to me that means plasma cutter. Do you mean HF?
I have no idea how it runs, still sitting inside which is not making SWMBO overly happy. In all the thinking and talking that was done I never actually got around to getting gas lol That's likely going to have to wait until Monday.

Sorry Stu. It is actually designated TIG200....
And yes, I mean HF - we used to call it "pilot arc" because it starts the arc through a plasma channel formed by the high voltage - like a "pilot light" - same as on a plasma cutter....
Very happy with it as I said, especially at a fifth of the price of the Metalmaster.... just couldn't justify that expense I'm afraid. And I already have a 60A plasma cutter....Cheers, Joe

But mine has more lights I just hope the operator is half as good as he thinks he was lol
Hey I cant justify it either. Some what unlike me I didn't even try. I just wanted one and didn't know enough about welds these days to going looking myself.
I may have gone a little over the top with regards my skill level.
I wonder what it was cost to get the local shop to cut me some say 150x50mm 1mm MS practice pieces. Would that be a good place to start?
Its just dawned on me I could have fired it up as a stick welder. I don't need to wait for gas to find out I cant stick weld anymore lol

I Joined the TIG Party
Hi Stu,
I joined you in the TIG party, bought a UniMig Razor 200 ACDC unit.
Today was the 1st day trying it out, attempted to glue some 3mm S/S rod pieces together, big fail many times. Now back to YouTube videos to see where I went wrong.
I don't quite see the 'puddle' like in the videos, might have to light the setting on the helmet.
Anyway, another day to practice tomorrow. I might have to find an 'Elmer or Mentor' to guide me on my way
Cheers, Peter

Yeah, that's the hard part - particularly as I'm getting older...
But if you cannot see the puddle, you can't get good results. At least not until you have welded for a few thousand hours....
I often spend a bit of time these days "getting my eyes in" on scrap before welding crucial parts....
Cheers

Welcome
That sounds like a pretty strange thing to be practicing on. But if the rod is straight try laying it folded piece of steel. At least then it has no where to run
I tried to get some test pieces cut. $1 each for material they said, ok I'll have 40 I say, plus $5 a cut.... ok let me rethink that. lol Must be getting old. Still I guess its not the sort of cutting they are asked to do every day.
Got filler wire and gas so almost really to melt something.

Shiny new plasma cutter sounds even better...
Cut it apart, weld it together, cut it apart, weld it together, cut it......
Seems to be pretty popular to use a straight edge to get straight cuts.

Talking about my shiny new plasma in regards to swapping gasses. purging lines etc.
Is there anything wrong to pre flow and post flow of compressed air when using plasma?
I'm thinking I can disconnect the remote plug and cable of the TIG torch but leave the gas connected(with the bottle turned off of course). Connect the plasma cable and remote plug, then just connect the air directly to the cable, with a tap if the noise upsets me lol.
Ok you might not choose to do it if you had a lot of cutting to do. (in which case you may well end up with a stand alone plasma, but I cant see me using it that much)
I had thought about adding an extra gas solenoid, but that's going a little to far I think.
