Girl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Hi Simon, That is mild steel. I find that SS will require a little less amp as it doesn't dissipate heat as well and it will blow through, that is on thin sheet anyway and I don't think it matters as much on thick material like that?

I used the old SIP arc welder for my first tig last year, scratch start and remote gas hose with a tiny knob on the torch handle where you control the gas with the knob and the hose connects directly to the regulator at the bottle. The tungsten gets contaminated quite quick and requires re-sharpen all the time. Also the only way to finish off the weld is to move the torch away from the work, it gets the job done but quite messy at the end as the "last puddle" is not shielded by the argon and as you move a way, there is an arc that follows especially on higher amp.

    Regards,
    Trong

PS: this on not the first weld on that tig, I probably went through about 1/2 of the E bottle by that time.
