Default Welding aluminium- weld building up...

I'm practicing welding aluminium (I did a search but couldn't find a specific answer, sorry) and sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't- hence the need to practice! I am using a spool gun with argon on a cigweld 185. At the moment I am practicing on 3mm square tube (rounded edge) and the weld seems to "pile up"- coming up in lumps. I've tried increasing and decreasing both amps and feed. Any ideas?

    Cheers,

Without pictures makes it hard to recommend, as it could be a multitude of things. I'd say at a guess, that it could be your speed, not wire but your movement!!!
A suggestion, is to cut across your weld to see what your penetration is like.

Thanks Kryn, just tried cutting through, penetration looks good. I'v managed a couple of decent welds this afternoon, but inconsistent. I guess that means it's more me than the settings. I'll try varying speed and see.

As your welds are inconsistent, then the only cure is practice, and more practice. If you're only welding occasionally, next time you go to weld, you'll need to spend a bit of time getting the "feel" again. If I've been off the tools a month or so, it takes me a couple of hours to get it right, and I've been welding for 50+ years, so don't feel too bad about it.
