    Default Cigweld Weldskill 150

    I couldn't help myself as I just can't resist a bargain. I've just done it again but I'm pretty happy. I've now obtained another "as new" welder, with additional bits, again with the idea of keeping some of it and re-selling off some other bits. Maybe the welder itself again. I don't know this time. I was happy to sell the Rossi 185 E (although I found it OK) but I'll wait and see. I may keep this as my Mig setup to replace the old 130 Twin for Indoor / Outdoor and use the new 175i+ to work in the shed only. Undecided at this point.

    This time it's a Cigweld Weldskill 150 (MIG only) that is less than 2 years old, has again done no work at all, with a new 3 shelf welding trolley (the handle model) and another rent free Coregas bottle. I can't get the $200 refund because the seller had lost the receipt, but that's no big deal since swaps for refill don't require it. I want 4 different bottles anyway so I can rid myself of BOC bottle rental and I'm now 3/4 the way there and less than half the cost. If I do ever want to return this bottle, the big B have told me they will do a $200 store credit voucher, but not cash back. That's OK. I can work with that as I can use it to pay for refills anyway.

    Too many people have money to buy new welders with accessories and then don't use them. I'm OK with that. 1 more to go. 2 would be better. I'm obtaining my rent free bottles on the cheap, getting to play with different welders and collecting heaps of consumables and other goodies in the process.

    It is amazing how many people are "selling" rental bottles.

    Pluses for the 150. 15 Amp power. Fair duty cycle, Euro torch connection. Very simple drum brake system with minimal parts.

    Negative: Plastic wire feed. (The Rossi 185E had a metal unit).

    I thought that too, but the last time I went in to swap, they wanted the receipt - the idea was that they would refund the deposit and then charge me for a refill + bottle. Not sure what the benefit of that is, but that is what they did. Lucky for me the receipt was in the car.

    That is not how it should work at all. Completely outside the idea of the system which is straight swap and go refills. I rang one of the 2 local stores to ask before I bought it and fully explained the situation. I know the guy I spoke to in store, and his name, as he's been there for over 20 years. He actually went away and checked store policy with the manager then rang me back to inform me accordingly. There should be no need to produce a receipt of the bottle deposit to obtain a swap and go refill. The only time you need the receipt is if you want the deposit back. There is no way they will refund the bottle deposit without the receipt but they will do the full $200 store credit.

    I'm going to do this before too long while it's fresh in his memory. I'll just pay another $200 deposit on an extra bottle to obtain a receipt and use the $200 store credit on this one for other goods or refill swaps.

    There is another industrial supplies, distributor of Coregas just down the road, so I'll check their policy first. They may just refund without receipt. It doesn't really matter to me as I'm in the process of ridding myself of BOC rental bottles and obtaining customer owned or deposit paid bottles.

    While I haven't swapped a bottle at Bunnings in the last few months, I've probably done 3 swaps so far, and never had to produce an original receipt, just a bottle.

    RustyArc, this is exactly what you should expect and I'd be asking for management involvement if I was treated otherwise.

    Speedgas bottles are "customer owned" and not "fully refundable deposit paid". It doesn't really make much difference but you don't see many Speedgas bottles up for sale and you'd have to wonder if they will ever fetch full price. By all reasoning they should, but will they in 5 years time or later. Having just bought one of each in package deals, and (theoretically) not paying the full price for either, I'd have to say the best bet is to go with the fully refundable deposit system and look after the receipt. I don't suppose there is any difference really in the contents or use, so the "assurance" of a refundable deposit is attractive and seems a better option.

    Try and get your money back on a customer owned 9 kg (8.5 kg) Swap-n-go LPG bottle. I've ended up with 9 of them.

    Could you just take the gas bottle back and get your $200 in store credit voucher, then go back a couple of days later and get a new bottle of gas, and get them to record the receipt details for you. I'm not sure if they retain the records, or if they send you an SMS with the details. Either way you get a new bottle of gas and a receipt for same.
    Bunnings don't offer gas except for propane in Tasmania AFAIK, although we have a mob, Nubco, who have a range of welding gasses and customer owned gas bottles. I don't know how their prices compare with other gas suppliers though.
    Nubco have recently been taken over by Coventry Fasteners. In my neck of the woods, Coventry Fasteners, aka Konnect, have lost the shopfronts, with all stock going to Nubco. Nubco has a wider range of gear for sale, Konnect only did fasteners and a few associated bits, (drill bits, allen keys, nut drivers and other similar lines) but they did know their stuff, whereas Nubco salesman , a young bloke recently informed me that the 3 lines on a grade 5 bolt only signified that it was high tensile, not what grade it was. I had asked for grade 8 bolts to replace grade 8 bolts with worn heads holding the blade plate on my mower. Some of the older blokes are ok, but the young blokes while pleasant enough are a bit clueless, which to me indicates a lack of training by the employer, after all you can't expect a 19 year old to know what an old hand would know without good training.

    Possibly. I had considered that myself but it really won't be necessary, for me anyway. I can spend more than $200 in Bunnings on a regular basis so it will work ok.

    In reality though it's a bit stupid as a store policy. A store voucher or gift card should be as good as cash or a bank credit or debit card. As far as the bottles are concerned, a refundable deposit is paid before it leaves the store. That deposit should be refunded upon its return. Simple as that. To who, with or without a receipt, should not be relevant. But they got away with 12 month expiry dates on gift cards for years.

    Edit: Other Coregas supplier will not even do store credit. They will gladly do refill swaps without question but they won't refund to anybody who didn't actually pay the deposit to that store. They actually record details upon taking the deposit.
