125mm angle grinder guard
Hi Everyone
Hoping someone can help. I am looking for an old 125mm guard that I can use on a 5 inch angel grinder that has one missing. It is a Makita unit.
Thanks
Alan

I reckon that would be an easy enough thing to fabricate as a TIG project. They are only half a disc with a lip and some sort of strap to clamp around the spindle boss. Guard thickness on my 4" is 2mm thick, so something between that and say 2.5mm would be fine.

Ring around to find an electrical shop that repairs Makita stuff. Some of them will keep the junked burnt out grinders and other tools just for like situations like this . It enables them to get a customer underway with less costs and waiting for spare parts. I cracked an AG g/ box case and a shop here did that for me. Good service I thought.
You might be lucky.

Just a thought - Aldi have 125mm grinders going cheap at the moment ($30) http://www.woodworkforums.com/187045...angle-grinder/. The guards are removable and have an adjustable collar, so.... - might fit?

How did you go Doc Bug? I found them for sale online, but jeez...over $50 delivered.

As mentioned earlier - not sure what tools you have in your shop but these are pretty easy to make at home. I made one for my 9 inch grinder and it didnt take long.

Most guards I have seen are unique to that particular make of machine, I think you will be lucky to find something that will fit straight on unless it is from the same make and model.

Yeah the pricing is horrendous, I have a few repairers looking out for one, failing that I'll tig one up out on 1.6mm plate and see how that works. It's just for a grinder with a flap disk so not that critical

Just in case you haven't looked at the Aldi one: it has a VERY adjustable collar with an over-centre lever and would fit quite a few angle grinder bosses. I got to look at the one my dear wife bought for me last week.
By the way, the Aldi $30 special comes with just a cut-off guard (covered on both sides) and the grinding guard is an optional extra.....Cheers, Joe

$6 + Free postage from Hong Kong
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Metal-Ang...f18ff17&_uhb=1If it does not fit ask if they have one for your size.
Can't beat $6 and free postage.
Otherwise, buy a new grinder for $60 take the cover, sell it for $50 and bob is your uncle.
