Cast Iron Repair
First time posting over the dark side
I picked up a jointer yesterday for a great price. But there's always a downside to something good that's cheap. As per the picture below the front of the fence there is two full thickness cracks as highlighted. The thickness that needs to be repaired is about 20mm and someone has attempted to do some sort of tack weld in the past. The fence still works okay however it's difficult to get a good lock on it.
Is anyone up for giving this a go for me? Can it be done? More than happy to pay what it's worth to repair. If you need anymore details or a better photo please don't hesitate to PM or post here. I live in Plenty (near Greensborough) and don't really want to stray too far to have it fixed.
Thanks in advance.

Its quite fixable only if you don't let someone who does not know what their doing near it.
Do not stick weld but go for braze welding. It will need to be ground out in a vee prep and Braze welded with Maganese bronze filler rod- not Tobin bronze but only with Maganese bronze filler . The casting is a bit complex and not well suited to the distortion that an inexperienced cast iron stick welder could place on it.

Hi Scott, if you can't get it repaired, I have one that looks the same that I'm prepared to sell and swap for the broken one, as I can repair it myself.
My unit is a Woodman 4" jointer, I think they are all the same but sold under different brand names.
Regards
Kryn

Scott, I can't see the back of that piece but assuming it is not a complex shape if necessary it looks like it could be remade with a piece of mild steel.
