Thread: Top Quality MIG Welding Pliers

I'm looking for some top quality MIG welding pliers I have found some cheap made in China ones but I would prefer something made in:

Japan, Germany, USA, Sweden etc. (you get the idea)

Even Taiwan is acceptable.

I have been Googling but hard to determine where they are made.

Why does it matter WHERE they are made? The question ought to be 'who sells good quality pliers'. The country of manufacture is no guarantee of quality. I have some real bubblegum stuff made in the US.

It matters to me! Been burnt too many times based on country of origin.

So if at all possible I have a preference for where items are made based on my own experience.

Not saying everything out of say China is bad but its not my first choice if I can avoid it dependent on price difference.

Granted the country of origin is not a 100% guarantee but it improves the odds of a quality product without doubt in my experience.

Those pliers are only for CO2 MIG setups.

Fair enough. I guess it does matter when I consider what you said. But that said, I don't consider US made bits to be any different from Chicom. I have used some really crummy american made bits.

Agreed. US stuff can be hit and miss.

Why do you say this?
I realise that the advertisement mentions CO2 specifically, but CO2 and Argon based gasses use the exact same components, so I see no reason why these would not work as required.
My main comment regarding these would be the relatively narrow size range covered by the pliers, (one plier covers 12-15mm nozzles and you need another set to cover 15-18mm). I have used a pliers made by POWERBUILT and they have served me well. The powerbuilt pliers require that you remove the gas nozzle for cleaning where the swiss made ones would clean the nozzle in situ it seems.
I have used the powerbuilt ones nearly every day for 6 years and they are holding up well.

Local bolt place stocks Powerbuilt tools I might see if they have the MIG Pliers.

A lot of the Powerbuilt stuff is made in Taiwan and seems pretty good.

Just to add my 2 cents worth, yeah, I agree, country of origin usually does matter. I've found that Chinese goods are usually of an inferior quality, and are overpriced for what you get. Often, one has to bite the bullet and pay extra to get goods that are much better quality.
