    Hello guys,

Thanks Rappy77.. the Kemppi looks nice and I hear great things about.. not really in my price range however. The Lincoln also is a nice small unit and looks to also be the good and it's reguarded highly among many however I'm yet to price this one.

I'm pretty keen on the UNIMIG.. but having second thoughts the duty cycle seems to not be a the best so I'm humming and haring is that is going to cause me to much grief or not..

I liked the larger unimig as I know they make a quality machine and the price seems great value at the same time having a machine that can tackle a range of jobs in theory

the research continues.. the more I look into this the deeper im getting and more questions are arising haha!

    Hey exile

If you worried about duty cycles then scratch the lincoln 180 off your list..... 130A at 25%??? Its a 180 amp machine!!! Duty cycle at 180 according to lincoln....it doesnt have one...so we worked out it roughly 6%!!! But this machine is a good 0.6 to 0.8mm wire machine.

What unimig?? The procraft or inverters?? Inverters are made in china by Jasic and the procraft is made in hungary, i think? Both pretty good units but look at the WIA 190. Should fit nicely into your price bracket and is a damn good machine. Lets face it your probably never going to run more than 1.0mm wire (hell 0.9mm probably as it common... ah for some reason australia decided to follow the yanks on this, europeans dont even know what 0.9 is.... ) and this machine is more than capable of it. At the end of the day don't get caught up too much on the amp rating (ie 240, 190 etc) as it doesn't really mean all that much.

I have a 200 migomag (hate it will be for sale soon) and gets smashed in performance by my uncles WIA150... so...

If you want the biggest bad boy of the lot in single phase then go the WIA270 but might be extending the budget a little

Check out machines4u.com give u some ideas...

    Cheers Rappy

For the last 40 years I've stick welded..

I have a job coming up that will require a heap of MIG.

After carefull thought I've decide to talk to a local repairer and see if one of their apprentices woud like some weekend practice on the workshop MIG.

I think I can get the task done for less than the price of buying a MIG and to a higher standard than I can ever achieve.

I know down the track I may find a use for the MIG but I can allways drop around to my cousin's place and use his.

I figure look at how much you will use it compared to the cost and then make your decision.

    Hello guys,

Thanks for the large interest in this thread, as you all can see I've done the research and asked the questions both in this thread and have private messaged some of you.

I've come with the final decision it is going to be the unimig as it seems to tick all the boxes and will be fine for what I want out of a mig welder.

Now as for GAS I've spoken with BOC, COREGAS and SUPAGAS.. Today the decision was made which company will be getting my business... SUPAGAS! Not only did they smash all the quotes I received they were happy to work with my requirements and how i wanted to do business with them and they also include a free delivery/pickup service. Very helpful on the phone speaking direct to the rep who services my area I was wraped thumbs up highly recommened.

So just a matter of getting the money together then it's time to spend up on the new gear

oh and i brought myself a UNIMIG auto darkening helmet blue aussie flag design one... localy $120 was a good bargin I thought..

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Default Inverter MIG

Check out the Everlast website www.everlastweld.com.au you will get a five year full replacement warranty. The machines are designed in the USA, built in China with German Seimens IGBTs. The machine which would be ideal for panel work is the Power-IMIG 160. Portable, Inverter technology and great value for money. If you are thinking of panel work then solid wire with gas is the better option rather than flux cored. You need to get plenty of practice on thin material and the tacking technique is vitally important.

Thanks for link but the web site looks temporary down so I'll check it later.
And very good tips from you regarding solid wire or flux cored wires.

    Hello,

as I said I'm sold on the unimig after much research and asking lots of questions. As it will see other work after the panel work, however I was interested in the everlastweld just to see what they had to offer but the website is currently down... that's a good start

everlasted I'm guessing Everlast is your company ?

    Cheers,
    Paul

It appears that the link may have been wrong. I am not with everlast but I was just at their site and was working OK.

Maybe we should all let Everlasted know what the correct link to his company is.
