Default Clamping piece of angle onto plate strip

I need to make a small jig where a small bit of angle iron sits on a 3 x 12 x 50 mm strip of steel. The bit of angle needs to run along the middle of the 50 mm strip of steel. The bit of angle needs to balance on the strip making 2 angles of 45 degrees with the 50 mm strip. The 45 degrees need to be fairly accurate but I found that the way I had it clamped (in a G clamp) I couldn't quite get it accurate enough. I'm sure there's a better way of assembling this, can someone tell me how?

If you have a few spare bits of material you could use 3 pieces of angle and 3 pieces of your 3mm flat.
Lay the 3 pieces of flat near to each other, the 1 in the centre straight and the other 2 on an angle to the centre 1.
With your angle invert 2 pieces and lay them beside your centre flat piece, have them straddling the 2 pieces of flat either side of your centre1.
Put your other bit of angle on the centre piece of flat.
Bring the other pieces of angle in to touch the centre piece.
The outer pieces of angle should hold the centre piece at 45 while you tack it in place.
The only reason I have said to lay the outer flat on an angle is because if you only have 12mm wide strip the angle will not sit on it.
This wont be exact but pretty close without using a purpose made jig or protactor.

Thanks, Pipeclay, I'm trying to visualise what you've suggested, I'll give it a try.

Thanks, Grahame. I can see the image now but could not before.

You are correct with your diagram, that is exactly what I'm trying to do. How can I clamp this so that the angle sits right on centre?

I would not bother with the clamp and just hold by hand and tack.

However,if not able to hold by hand and tack, why not place a bit of flat over the toes of the angle and pull the lot together.
If the angle has too much point and wobbles ,grind a flat on it
Sorry for the rough pic we have visitors
