View Full Version : Private Messages alert

Would it be possible to improve the method of alerting members to the fact that they have been sent a private message? At present there is a fairly unobtrusive message at the bottom of the home page that tells you whether there are any new private messages since you last visited the forum. This means, in effect, that, unless you check unfailingly every single time that you visit the forum, you will not be alerted to new private messages. In fact you will be unaware of them until you next click on your rather cryptically named user cp button. At least it should be possible for the message at the bottom of the forum page to tell you if there are any unread private messages, rather than just whether there are any private messages since you last visited the forum

Rocker,

May be you should alter your preferences in your User cp as mine shows the following on the home page

Sturdee - You have 0 new message(s) since your last visit.
(You have 0 unread messages and 13 total messages in all your folders.)

In addition I receive an email from this board advising me of any pm

Peter.

Rocker, you can also set the private messages notifications to "popup" when you log in.

Sturdee and Robbo,
Thanks; I am afraid it looks as though I have not done my homework; I will revise my settings as you suggest.

Perhaps I should have suggested in my original post that the alert aboout unread messages would be more noticeable if it were put with the"Welcome back, username" message immediately above the "View new posts" button, since that is where most people first direct their attention when they visit the home page.
