Hi everyone,
I saw the following posted on the practical machinist board and thought enough of it to cut and paste here.
It is an example of what you can get buying Chinese welding electrical products. The Chinese have started to to display the CE logo on some machinery and industrial electricals -like plasmas and welders.the original CE Euro logo is a quality assurance label whereas the Chinese one supposedly stands for China Export. The Chinese machine you have, MAY not comply with recognized safety standards.Regard this as a heads up only, not as a starter for an argument, please!
(quote) I posted this to the yahoo welder list but thought to post here as well.
About three months ago, I bought a cheap, Chinese plasma cutter off an ebay seller who dissapeared immediately after the sale. His lack of feedback compelled me to complete the sale in person so I did not loose out my cash. And, the few times I've used the machine, it's worked perfectly.
There was a problem though with the air line fitting on the cutter's housing. The fitting was a flange mount and it was loose on the housing so that the dryer/filter was flopping about. Yesterday, I decided to take the cutter appart so that I could tighten the fitting. When I had the housing cover off, I discovered the problem I'm writing to report to this list. The ground lead (green) from the 220V power cable was connected to the PLASTIC fan motor housing. Again, the metallic housing was NOT grounded. I fixed this and thought to let people know.
If you own one of these, or any other welder/cutter from you know where, please check to see that you have the housing grounded. It's a quick and simple check with a multimeter. All you have to do is check for continuity from the lead's ground to the metallic housing. (End quote)
