G'day all, i want to purchase a Weldskill 140 turbo manual arc welding machine:

I am not too sure if it the right one for me job. I will be welding up
1.6mm - 2.0mm R.H.S sections. Will this welder be capable of doing this type of job? And wat is the size of the electrode that should be used to weld 1.6mm RHS? Will the welder be capable of welding sheet metal of roughly 1.6mm into a tray type design? And one more thing, i want to purchase from bunnings so do u guys reckon theres another brand that is relaible to get which sells at bunnings?

Cheers, UNit_01:2tsup:

Hi Unit_01,
To be honest, you will have some difficulty welding anything under 2mm with a manual arc welder. Is is possible, but will generally be messy and take some time to master.

If you do try it then I suggest you get the thinest rods available (1.5 or 1.6 possibly??)

Personally, I would go with a MIG welder for sub 2.0mm(or 2.5mm is a bit safer) steel.

G'day unit, IMHO the mig is the way to go for thin sections like what you're talking about. If you are after a stick, then you can persevere with 1.6 rods with sweet bugger all amps
