Hi Guys,

I've posted this tip before, but I thought I would put it here so that it could easily found.

A quick tip for making short grub screws from threaded bolts or just shortening the bolt. It is one that I often use, that is to screw the donor bolt into a split die and then clamp the die in the three jaw chuck. Then simply part off as required. Transfer the die with the required grubscrew still in it to the vice and then hacksaw a slot in the end. At this point you can use a screwdriver in the slot to clean up the threads by screwing it in or out of the die. Of course you are length limited by how short you can go by the thickness of the die.

I've just cut some M5 countersunk screws down to 8 mm long overall.
