Hi,

I thought this might be of interest to the CNCers. The other day I bought a bandsaw from a bloke, I was lucky enough for him and his wife to show me around his workshop and house.

His name was Rex Swenson, a well known CNC operator and clockmaker from Sydney. His workshop was pretty good, his workmanship was absolutely amazing. He's built several clocks (including a large Grandfather clock) which took years to make.

He mainly machined the gears and frames (not a clock maker so I don't really know all the correct terms) on his Dyna Myte 2400 NC milling machine. It is a solid beast, it has lead screws but the programming compensates for the backlash. I don't really know much about Dyna Myte machines but I think they are more of an educational institution learning machine. Apparently this machine was bought in by IBM for one reason or another. This is Rex's online page about his machine:

There's not much more humbling than meeting an 84 year old who has more experience and knowledge in his little finger than I'm ever going to get.

I should of got more photo's of his workshop and work.

Ben.
