Can anyone recommend some reading on hand lapping to achieve parallel planes/faces?

Hi,
I think most engineering text books probably go through describing the process of making flat surfaces by lapping. The three plate method is one that I've seen described a number of times. Other include internal and external laps for tubes and rods.
Try:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapping
as a start.

Tom Lipton - Oxtools - has a few ewe-tube vids on lapping and laps.
