Thanks Kryn

there are some very good home made knife vices out there and that one would work well. I have a very rough version of one and always mean to make a better/nicer one but never do.

Making knives means you are often making up little jigs to help with various processes. I posted recently that I am looking for a mill to help in my knife making and I am sure it would also help me to make some jigs.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for posting Kyrn,
There are more and more showing knife making as an interest as time goes on. I am sure it will kindle a desire to make their own vice.

For my tastes, the knife vice shown could benefit from some extra work. My first effort was like that but I found that single position, lacking.

The section that clamps the blade can be made separate from the backing plate.

A drilled and tapped end in that section can make the unit usable in both the vertical and horizontal planes.

You don't appreciate it until hand sanding finish work is required on a fixed blade handle.

A 1/4 turn of the bolt allows the 90 degree rotation.

Better still, a quadrant arc can be added (if you have the mill ) for movement in 3 axes.

You then have what the yanks would describe as the ULTIMATE knife vise, but then that's used ( in Yew Toob) to describe most things they fabricate.

I went to out the shed to take a pic of MK 2 but apparently the phone needs charging and it wouldn't play the game.Tomorrow then!

Thanks Grahame, I realise that the "workmanship" left a BIT to be desired, but it was the general concept that I found interesting.

Based on Keith Spencer's design and has been copied, modified, changed, distorted by all and sundry from all across the planet claiming it to be their design
