I am in the market for a Slotting Machine. Not looking for some over sized industrial monster but a reasonable mid-range machine. Price must be applicable to current market conditions (in other words very reasonable" Preferably in W.A. but I am willing to look further afar if the deal is right. Regards to All. Norm

I unfortunately don't have one for you but what kind of stroke/machine weight do you want? I have only ever seen slotters that are pretty big, heavier than a shaper of the same stroke at any rate.

Thank you for your reply. I suspect I am looking for something around the 2 Ton mark with 12-14 inch stroke? But then why tie myself down. I just wanted to keep clear of the 5-20 Tonners that are in the scrap yards everywhere. I have just picked up 500kg of tooling for one "Unable to find what type of machine it was used on" though they range in length from 12"- 24" and from 4mm to 30mm in width. Regards Norm

I think any slotter with a 12" stroke is going to be much heavier then 2 tonne.

"Bugger" What is your estimate of weight for something in this mid range? Regards Norm

Serious but doable. Preferably a little lighter and smaller. Thank you for taking the time. Regards Norm

You have to remember that something with a 12 inch stroke is designed to work on workpieces 10 inches or more thick.

Hence why even slotters with a 8 inch stroke are very heavily made.

You can get small slotters though. They come up occasionally.

Also I'm sure a new import 12" stroke slotters doesn't weigh 4.5 tonnes

I don't think that would be much good. Cost is $4887 US, but to bring to Australia might be more than the cost, as it's in Alabama USA:doh:
Will it be used as a Hobby machine or in a business? Wondering if a shaper might be more benificial?

I have a serious DIY workshop here in Bunbury. I am retired and I enjoy bringing old machinery and bits back to life. I had a Douglas shaper but sold it. Now I want to try out a decent size slotter. Might buy a bigger shaper at some time in the future. Regards Norm

There is a nice little one in Melbourne.
This seller gets some nice stuff but resides in his perpetual happy place when it comes to pricing.

Saw that one Greg and agree with you about the seller as I have tried to work with him before. What I am looking for is this little fella's father. I have a short stroke slotting head but really want a larger more beefier unit. Thank you for thinking of me. Regards Norm
