OMG!!!! That is the exact "Pacific Electric co Melbourne" motor frame that are used on the workhead of Hercus #3a and #1 tool and cutter grinders with the exception it is single phase. There are plenty of photos of those motors on the forums Anorak Bob heavily modified one in order to access the center point of the Wye winding. The three phase version of that motor is 1425rpm and purported to be 1/30th H.P.

Did you just buy that of gumtree?

Nice that it runs well. What are you going to use it for?

These days i am heavily into making jewellery as a hobby and it will be a very handy addition to the studio, especially for piercing when you have to drill many small holes in a sheet for saw blades, plus many other
uses\I have stared to clean the years of dust from it and the table has the remnants of a hand scraped finish.

Did you ever find anything more about the motor at least?

All i can find out is the motor was made by Pacific Electric Co Melbourne, ( long disappeared ) as mentioned above a three phase version was used on a Hercus T&C grinder, so who ever
made the item seems to have just sourced the motor from them. I have not as yet found any one here or in the UK or in the USA that has seen one, although I have had several offers to buy it, it's not for sale

Hi Classy Missy,

I have been unable find any more info than I have posted, It is a jewellers or sensitive drill press, it works very well
if I ever stumble across extra info I will post it here.

This nit needs picking.

My best mate who happens to be watchmaker/jeweler will likely tell you in no uncertain terms that it is a watchmakers drill.

I been told so many times about watchmakers lathes as well. They are not jewelers lathes.

I should know really, as my dad was a watchmaker and jeweler. He had one a bit different as the table came up instead of the quill coming down.

Yes I agree it is correctly called a watchmakers drill, Americans tend to refer to them as a sensitive drill press, table on this is adjustable for height, but only fixed height, this seems to be the
only one in existence, I have not been able to find any info at all, I am beginning to wonder if it is a one off or a prototype.
