I started this KEG Foundry Furnace project a few years ago and now have some time to finish it off . I had two old beer kegs lying around so why not put them to use. Been researching DIY Foundry Furnaces and came across the (myfordboy) web site, So will be building a oil burner like he has built.

Poured in the refractory cement into the lid and the bottom of the keg, will line the side of the keg with fire bricks.

Got some work done on the supply station, i had to make a stronger base as 60 litters of oil and 25 litters in the top tank was to heavy and with those small caster wheels the hole thing could tip over. I hack a PC power supply for the 12 volt oil pump witch will top up the top tank,don't want to run out of oil when doing a melting season. I'm using 135 micron mesh for filtering WASTE VEGETABLE OIL.

Today i cut the hole for the tuyere and use a propane torch to slowly heat the furnace up to ~400c, next week will use the oil burner. The refractory has been drying for about 7 months so just want to make sure there is no moisture left before i cerment the fire bricks in.

I cut up the fire bricks to the required size for the keg and used high temp cement to hold the bricks in, i ran out out of high temp cement will get some more to finish off and trim the top off with a hand saw.

What high temp cement are you using and where do you get it from?

I also like your oil burner, do you have much $$$ invested in it?

I got the cement from Refractory and Ceramic PTY LTD in Mulgrave Vic So far the cost is $1,000 and counting. I found out Bunnings are selling High Temperature Mortar Heat resistant up to 1000°C will need to get some to finish off the brick work.

Got the high temp mortar and finish off the brick work and had plenty left over, so applied the rest on the inside and top. I have a 8 inch stainless tube which i would like to use for a test melt. There is 1 inch gap between the tube and the wall of the furnace, would the gap be OK?

Interesting.... I've had a keg kicking around for years. Always thought it was aluminium for some reason, but I'm going to have to re-check now. But ouch on the price so far - how much of that was the burner, and how much the refractory?

Don't know mate, i do not keep tabs on how much every thing cost or have a budget doesn't work i just build the thing.

Mate are u saying u have spent $1000 on this keg furnace build? I cant see that kind of money in it but if u had that is crazy expensive
