Replacement motor for RF-45 to cnc?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a motor and/or VFD to put on my wrong fu clone, the HM-46.

Got it apart now and I'd like to start a belt conversion now. Where do Aussies go for electric motors and vfds?

For motors i either go to scrapyards and the replace the dead bearings ( I spin the motors and if the bearings feel gnarly id get those, if the bearings are free its there because it burnt out or worse.) Or just stalk gumtree. I use Powtran vector drive VFDs which I get off aliexpress but now you can get them for less with faster shipping from the manufacturer.

Pretty much any general scrap metal dealer or recycler sees its fair share of 3 phase motors, i can't give you any specific ones up your way unfortunately.

I'll second this comment ! I get a lot of useful bits and bobs from my local scrapyard. It also helps to let whoever is in charge know what sort of things you might be interested in. The chap in my local one will put stuff on one side for me. I missed a four foot folder recently. It got broken up for the cast iron. :oo:

I third that! I love my local scrap yard. Every six months or so I will take the time to wander through the backyard of our scrap metal dealer. I'm not sure if he lets everyone do this (or perhaps no one else has asked) but I ask nicely and make sure I wear sensible clothes so he does not have to worry about me getting injured. He is always happy for me to look. I have demonstrated sensible behavior around working plant so I think he's OK that I will not do anything stupid.

I have found all sorts of good stuff, including heavy plate, bits and pieces, and hydraulic parts. All for 33c per kilo or there abouts. Oh and electrical motors? Heaps and heaps of them.

Even if I don't find anything I want, it's still fun to look at all the "stuff"!

Maybe I should start visiting some scrap yards instead of looking for stuff through eBay all the time. Might end up cheaper. It probably all comes from there in the first place anyhow. haha.

Now just need to find some decent ones around Melbourne.

Hi Guys,

One bit of advice when buying motors from a scrap yard, ask if they will allow you to return a faulty or unsuitable motor !
Luckily I'm on very good terms with the chap who owns the scrap yard that I frequent, he will put stuff on one side and allow me to return stuff if it isn't right or suitable for my needs. Admittedly there is an amount of give and take involved. He needs to earn a living and I need to be able to get rid of my scrap :)

I found a Spec drawing of my original motor on H&F's website. It showed mounting hole info, but that is determined by the 'Frame size'.

I just bought a brand new WEG 0.75kW 3 phase motor with the exact same frame and shaft size I needed , off the shelf for $240.
Not worth the hassle of possible dud bearings for that price, IMHO.

I got it from a local Bearing Supplier. They sell motors, pulleys, bearings, pumps, etc.

You must have something similar in Brissie? Bearing Service and Statewide Bearings are 2 over here in WA.

A local motor electrician could also have ordered one for me from Perth and get it in a couple of days.
Price would have been similar.

HINT: make sure you determine the Frame size you need. Makes life a lot easier. ie 'Frame' 80 is 80 mm from the base to centre of the shaft.

As far as VSD's go, I got mine from an Aussie supplier of Ebay. Look for 'Sensorless Vector Control'. The VERY cheap ones don't have it but pay alittle more and they do.
About $200 ish for a 0.75kW model.
