I'm slowly restoring one of my Datsun 1600's (1971). I purchased a set of twin carbs for it. They are a copy of the British SU but are made by Hitachi in Japan. Not surprisingly the shafts were quite sloppy in the housings so some refurbishment was required.
On disassembly it was obvious that the shafts were badly worn. I'm not sure what material the bushes were made from but I suspect it was harder than the brass shafts.

New shafts are not available and I don't have a mill to make new ones so I decided to machine down the originals from 8mm to 7.5mm and fit undersized bushes.
The ER32 collet adaptor I made a while back came in handy. I undersized the shaft but left the thread and throttle lever location original size.

I chose to make the new bushes from Delrin. The car won't see a lot of use so I don't think wear should be an issue this time around.

Pressed in, still to be trimmed to length and finish reamed.

Reassembled.

Still a long way to go on this project but i really did enjoy this part.
