Hi all,
Recently I bought a number of small items from ebay US sellers. Five days later I get the usual notification email saying my item had been delivered yet it's nowhere to be seen! I then check the delivery address on the invoice and it's been sent to Erlanger, Kentucky. ?
I message the seller and they claim that is my address I supplied. I tell them no it's not. Never heard of that address in my life. After some to and fro-ing with messages to the seller, I decided to do a google search for the full address (which I now can't find) and it turns out to be an ebay global shipping centre.
So, it turns out that when sellers in the US offer items for sale to overseas buyers, they mostly unwittingly sign up to ebays global shipping service which adds to the shipping cost that the seller has nominated and adjusts the international shipping price on the add.
Sellers can opt out of this service but apparently they need to go into settings to find it. If they are unaware then they won't look for it.
What happened to me recently was I bought two small hydraulic fittings, only a couple of dollars each but one showed a shipping price of about $30 and the other about $6. I sent the item with the cheaper shipping price direct to me and the dearer shipping price item I sent to Shinto address (on forwarding address in the US) As it turned out, the two items where from the same seller which I didn't realise. So, they sent both items direct to my home address. I have no issues with that, however they then turn up at this Erlanger, Kentucky address and I get notified that they are "delivered"!
The thing is, I will no doubt see these items after they get put through the system, but when I look at my item invoice on my ebay account, it shows that I got charged $53 for international delivery. I then check my paypal transaction and it shows I paid a total of $4 for the total sale.
Question is, who is getting slugged the $53 for the luxury of ebays "global shipping service" for a sale of $4?
Not sure if anyone else has experience with this so thought I would share it. Oh BTW, after I told the seller about the ebay shipping service and that it should be OK, they then decided to resend BOTH items to my Shipto address. Now I'm getting 4 items at no extra charge and looks like they face a $53 shipping fee.
