Hi All, the more metal working I do the more I can see the need for a small sander/linisher.

I have an unused Abbot and Ashby 8 inch grinder, what about peoples thoughts on the performance of the Linishing attachments available?

ie Linishing Attachments | For Sale Sydney Brisbane Melbourne Perth | Buy Workshop Equipment & Machinery online at machineryhouse.com.au (http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Linishing-Attachments).

It looks like there are a number of people manufacturing them, which brand/size is best, or are they all the same? Any feedback would be appreciated.

If anyone has one they'd like to part with let me know :)

Thanks
JJZ

I have an A&A 8" grinder with a 50 x 915 mm multitool attachment and it is one of the most used things in my shed
The limited power of the grinder means this is about as large a belt as this grinder can drive.

If you want to be ab;e to use a larger belt I might be better to buy a dedicated linisher.
e.g. the 100 x 1220 mm attachment LA-484B (http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/L090) costs $495, but a basic 2HP linisher with a 100 x 1220 mm belt costs $539

Bear in mind that both the multitool and cheap linishers are not precision grinding machines.
If you need precision you'll need to be spending ~3x more than this.

Hi Joez, I have the same set up as BobL, and find it acceptable for most of the jobs I need to do on it, including sharpening larger drill bits. I believe that later ones have a plate on the side, that allows bolting on of different attachments. I have the Multitool brand, don't know if it makes any difference though, as I've not used any other brands, total of 3 over the years. Not had any problems with them, just sold them with the businesses. A&A are probably the best around for the price.

I currently have the blue belt grinder with a 6" wide belt, it does double service for both metal and wood and is handlywith such a wide belt but for metal the speed is way too slow. If I had my druthers I'd get the Hafco BS-48 which, when considering the price of the bench grinder attachments is fairly good value.

The newer MultiTool attachment to grinder type linishers don't have a good name. The ones I have looked at ( in the shop and attached to bench grinder for demo purposes) have exceptionally bad run out on the drive wheel.Makes em impossible to track correctly.

The spindle bores were not concentric the the drive surfaces. If you buy personally inspect the one you want to purchase .Don't buy an inline one as H &F won,t cover the postage/shipping back fora faulty replacement.

Better off try to buy,beg or steal and really old one. When they were made here they were top notch.

Its possible to build a decent linisher if you are a bit handy. Theres lots of info on the net.
