I am getting ready to start a Re-purpose of existing Copper Range Hood. I have been wanting to get into metal work as a hobby for some time. Other than high school metal shop I have no experience so it will be a fun challenge.

I am planning to buy an insert like an Imperial C2036SD2SB-SS and then build around that.

I am going to downsize the bottom perimeter from current L53" X W 32" to about L34" X W 24". I'll then build up the top into a typical copper hood (bell or similar depending on difficulty) using new materials.

Also, right now it has 2 long and 1 short sides. It will need to have 2 short and 1 long (front) sides.

If possible I will also try to use least toxic methods because all I have is a occupied living room to work in.

Here are a few pics:

What are you repurposing the hood for - a shop or a kitchen?
If it's for a workshop I would just use a bathroom venting fan.
