does anyone know of a hand shaper for sale or someone who wants to sell one, i know its along shot
and a big ask and it will cost me a mint for freight, but i can"t get one in perth or wa for that matter

I have a Drummond that has been on my 'to be finished' list since Gough Whitlam was PM.
Selling it has been on my mind, so PM me if you think that transport to Perth would be do-able.

I believe this was built around 1925, and I acquired it in '72 or '73. No vice unfortunately, and probably long gone when the Drummond came to me. The table carried a rusty work fixture with a last workpiece still in place: a steel washer about 3/4" diameter on which the shaper had been used to cut a shallow slot approx 1/16" wide across the face. That fixture looked to have been there for a long time. The table was not moved to cut the groove - cutting was all done by tool slide downfeed.

The slides are generally in good condition for age, with original scraping marks faintly visible on the table slides, and the tool slide operating smoothly over its diminutive travel. However the ram slides were worn out: very sloppy with the ram retracted (tool over the middle of the table for washer grooving), but too tight with the ram extended forwards - you really notice this with a hand shaper because only a little tightening of the ram gibs kills the human arm working the lever. So before I could to get any use out of it, I was off to Grout and Darlington in Marrickville to have the ram slides ground, and when I picked it up they gave me a scrap of thin Turcite to glue to the new surfaces. Around that time work and life intervened, adding the Drummond to my long term to-do list. I think it's off that list now.
