I decided to convert a 1HP Y motor to ∆ this arvo.
However the common point is at the other end of the motor and there are no pathways available through the inside of the motor.
The only thing I can think of doing is drilling a hole in the end cap and using conduit to take the ends of the coils at the common point back up the outside of the motor to where the other ends are?.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Sounds like a rational way to do it if there really isn't room for a more conventional job. What an inconsiderate b...... to connect it that way! The star point I mean, not your idea. What will you use..some sort of metalflex conduit? Failing that maybe a suitable size copper tube would allow the bends needed.

Ended up going with a gland in the front end cap.
I was looking at metal tubing but in the end I just sheathed the wires from the common point into a single 5mm tough fibreglass sheath, did the same to the other end and brought both sets of wires into a junction box on the side of the motor and from there to the VFD. It's a bit of a kludge but the motor (drives a wood work lathe) or wiring is out of the way up under a bench and so its not going to get knocked about. It will fool someone who doesn't know about motors if the go take a look at it - I might write something inside the junction box.
