Tried to get some work done in the smithy today and for the first two hrs couldn't get the forge real hot even with the blower up full. For the life of me had no clue what was wrong. Had been cleaned and a fresh fire built. Later I realised the ash dump had jammed open. Closed it and off she went.

Made a little candle stand, new design I came up with.

A friend told me he thought my big toasting forks were very heavy and he'd get a tired arm. So I came up with a rest, the fork is self supporting by canterleaving.

You could also hang a billy off the eye of that poker, although I haven't tested it, I think the stand if stuck firmly in the ground should hold it.

So the Missus can call me out of the depths of the shed for dinner.

Still have to make the hanger bracket and find some leather thonging.

Well the above conclude the successes now to the failure.
I decided to have a go at doing a Treble Cleft music note. It was only after I had finished I realised that I had put the vertical to the front instead of the back and in effect created a mirror image. Doh!

Will attempt to make a few jigs tomorrow and hopefully put them to use at the hammer in on the weekend.

Really great designs, you have a flair for that.

What fuel are you using in your forge? I get inspired after seeing results like you have pictured. Where would you get coke? I have asked a few people that I thought would be in the know but so far no good results. I does feel good to get stuck into a hot lump of steel to produce a curly something-or-other.

So just knocked these over. Still trying to find a quicker way to do the hearts. Tried making a jig for the camel hump part but still need three hands, so not much help.

The other handle is a new design and I quite like it.
After some lunch I'll go wire wheel them and coat them.

...The other handle is a new design and I quite like it...I agree - it's pleasing to my eyes.

But then beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. While the more regular shape appeals to me (I worked as a draughtsman for 19 years ), the freer lines of the heart shapes may appeal more to others. For the purposes of making a living, the more people you can please (with greater variety) the greater your sales (theoretically).

Keep up the good work.

Cheers, Vann.
