View Full Version : Mid '40's Macson Flanged Spindle - any backing plates out there?

I have a mid- '40's 17" Macson lathe that has their first generation flanged spindle fitted.

This has a pretty beefy backplate that has a recess an inch deep to locate that spigot and three studs with reel nuts.

I just purchased an old unused 8" 4-jaw that has a threaded backplate fitted and am on the lookout for one of these Macson three stud types to fit it to if anyone happens to have one catching dust in the corner and would be interesting in selling?

This may be hard to find, are you able to make your own?

Hi Ray, unfortunately my slightly newer machine has the four-bolt pattern as I do have a spare, hopefully that magically turns into a collet chuck one day. Best of luck though!

Pipeclay, it will probably come down to that and it would be by far the biggest thing I've attempted but I thought it worth asking as a lot of these old beasts would have gone via the scrappies and there is just a chance some chucks have been snaffled that still have these oddball adaptors. I'll admit the odds aren't on my side.
