Hi all
Ive always got plenty going on. My mates tell me I've got to much time on my hands. As long as I'm working on cars I'm happy.

I have two rare and expensive windscreens which came out of some old Darts. I found they have scratches. As if someone cleaned them with a scourer. You Can only see in certain angles in the light. A mate said the old glass sratches easier than the new glass .. Likely 1958-60 vintage.

The glass has an ID : Armour Plate Safety Glass

Is there anyway of polishing them out ... At $600 a pop it's worth looking into it.

Hi Randal,
Try contacting a windscreen place and find out if it is possible. Is the windscreen flat or curved????
Found this on google https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj8lOr39qnOAhXMjpQKHeOWCeMQFghHMAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.popularmechanics.com%2Fcars%2Fhow-to%2Fa3250%2Fhow-to-remove-light-scratches-from-your-windshield%2F&usg=AFQjCNEesVjgkWAcIltquZAYu8pcHg8wFw
To make things a bit easier, mark the location of the scratch on the other side of the glass so you can keep track of where you should be working. It may take a while, but keep the paste moist and add more cerium oxide as needed, and the result will be a smooth, scratch-free surface.
Cerium Oxide 100G Regipol Gold Grade | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CERIUM-OXIDE-100g-REGIPOL-GOLD-GRADE-/112078558262?hash=item1a18671436:g:i4UAAOSws4JW8GrK) The paste $18.95 free postage too

Those screens are pretty bad, no one will warranty a result old windscreens have a habit of exploding during the process
back in the days when I built old cars it was very common to get one screen out of three.

The windscreens are curved mostly with a small flat part in the middle ... Kind of wrap around.

Scratches are on both curved and flat areas.

There are also wiper scratch marks as well ...

Thanks all for the tips - I'll get some of that cerium oxide paste. Sounds like something similar to what is used in Gem Polishing.

you are aware that PGI glass went belly up a few months back, leaving only 1 mob in Australia making screens. if there are any screens left at $600 they are a cheep, as the next lot will be worth a lot more

had 1 quote for $1500 for 1 screen on a gt40

As far as I remember the Dart windscreen was, in fact, a Renault Dauphine sedan rear window. I don't suppose these are particularly common now either though.
