This line belt drive drill press has recently arrived at the Laidley Pioneer Village in SE Qld, its never been altered to run off its own electric motor.

An interesting feature is that the drill platten (which is made in 2 pieces) can be moved radially from the column. Because the platten is able to rotate, this feature would have enabled circles of holes to be drilled in the work piece, effectively an early rotary table.

That's an interesting drill press! Do you know the brand?

And what sort of chuck does it have? It looks like maybe it takes 1/2" shank blacksmiths bits.

I hate seeing machinery in this condition, makes me want to break out tools!

Tools Bob a bit of fine grit sand blasting wouldnt go astray either. I like that split plate idea especially to stop drilling into the main plate. Not that i have.
